Why did I join Rotary?

I moved to Pollock Pines with my wife, Heidi, in July of 2014, and for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was home. I'm a country boy at heart, and I love the community up here. I joined Rotary because I want to be around great people - people that want to make a difference in their community.

What is my favorite Rotary Event?

Dictionary Days. Our club purchases fourth grade level picture dictionaries, and distributes them to elementary students in the area. Not all students have access to the internet, and during the winter, with the snow, there are usually power outages. So the dictionaries are a valuable resource for the students.

What I love about this event is seeing the kids faces light up as they receive their new dictionaries, peruse the book, find a word they like, and then share with us what they like about that word. The enthusiasm of these kids is contagious, and the experience is priceless.
